Make America Learn History Again: Charlotta Bass
It’s real history, as told by the ‘All American Man’ in my inbox and me.
This post contains sensitive content on racism. Reader discretion is advised.
February being Black history month, I want to tell you the story of a woman who helped fight for civil rights in the early 1900s. The first Black woman to run for Vice President of the United States. Charlotta Bass.
It’s unfortunate he had to leave before we got to find out if this was a communist feminist story.
For her part, Charlotta denied being a communist. She lived during the Red Scare, when a fear of communism swept America. Despite her denial of being one, Charlotta was monitored by the FBI.
Charlotta saw so much evil, yet somehow she still believed things would get better. In more ways than a Republican man has the patience to listen to, she made it better.
“I believe in a world of good. The battle is not won, nor the struggle past. But I know the future will be even better.”
Charlotta Bass
