This is a redo of my original post Daisy and the Rabbit Fence. It’s about three times as long with way more information. I really wanted to term this story in my book but I didn’t feel my old post was good enough. I hope you liked it!
And I have just been referred to her today, so this is my first story I’ve read, too!
Brooke - this is very cool. I can’t wait to read more of your texting & history. This is a fantastic way to learn history & laugh at men sliding in our DMs to get a booty-call.
Canada had a moment a few years ago where it seemed like we were going to actually reconcile with our past and present treatment of Indigenous children and families, but it was short-lived. Volunteers have been finding unmarked graves scattered around former residential school sites, and in response people argue about whether they’re really graves or just some random anomaly. And invoking the phrase “generational trauma” in the context of this history makes some people angry enough to become physically violent. Expecting people to accept and understand the truth about their country’s past is a huge imposition, apparently
I did read it, thank you. It’s sort of depressing how this information was always available but never really talked about here until fairly recently. As kids we were all taught that Canada was like a nicer America - we took in escaped slaves, we didn’t all-out slaughter Indigenous populations like America did, etc. It was a nice story we told ourselves and it was also 100% bullshit
Canada has along, horrible (and recent) history with residential schools and MMIWG, so this post hits close to home. I can't even say we've made an attempt to reconcile. Thank you for sharing this.
You forgot (or may not be aware) that in 2023, 62.5% (or thereabouts) of the Australian voting public basically gave a gigantic "eff you" to Indigenous Australians and denied them the opportunity to form an Advisory Board to consult with the Federal Government on matters that directly or indirectly affect them.
Shit, now I have read every single one of your posts…I’m hoping for some inspiration when dealing with telemarketers and text scammers. 🙇🏾. So Gd funny - you might just be my first Substack paid subscription!
Wow. What a story. Thank you so much for writing this. In my book about being creative, I talk about “combining 2 skills” because it’s more interesting to people than just one.
A person singing A Capella? Meh. A person singing while they also play guitar? Everyone pays attention.
Playing violin? Meh. Playing violin while also spinning a plate? Everyone pays attention. 🤣
I love how you’re combining two skills in your SubStack - it’s definitely attention grabbing!!
Chatting with the horny dude in the DM that we women can all relate to? okay.
Chatting with the horny dude in the DM that we women can all relate to, while telling them history that everyone should really know? Oh my gosh, sign me up! I need to read more of this!
Thank you for what you do. I just learned about you today in a discussion with women talking about the slimey guys who just want booty calls. And I can’t wait to read more of your newsletters !!!
Thank you for leaving comments open so I could comment, too. 🌻

I think the original might have been the first post of yours I read!! Good enough to hook me for life 😘 I immediately ran off to watch the movie too.
Saving the rest of my comments for the book of faces. This was a doozy!
There were a few zingers from the original that I’ve saved to be their own single screenshots!
And I have just been referred to her today, so this is my first story I’ve read, too!

Likes and comments help me so much if you have a moment to do so. ♥️♥️♥️

If you haven’t read this one, I did a piece on Canadian residential schools and nutrition testing.

I will need to say more on this eventually. There’s so much important history there.

I'm left wondering what the Truth and Reconciliation Commission actually does besides land acknowledgements before Toronto Maple Leafs games. :(
The same is happening in the US too. I sent her info on some of the current research, so that may come up in a future post 😉
And thank you <3

It really does. I know you were following me then, so you likely read this but in case not, here’s one on Canada. https://letsnotdate.substack.com/p/ornery-history-nutritional-testing
I was following you but I didn't see that one! Thank you for sharing.

(who has a Double Major in History)
Thanks Simon. I saw your email earlier and I’ve updated the end to include this.
Who knew. Amazing Brooke. I knew a bit about Aboriginal maltreatment, but wow. Thank you, this was a great one.
Thank you
Your timing and delivery is superb.
Thank you!

I knew the background but not this particular story. Heartbreaking and thank you for sharing with the horny guy.
Damn. History persists even when it shouldn't. The 2023 vote blew me away. When will humans progress on a bigger scale???!!!
