Many men do not grow up, they just grow older and go looking for a woman to finish raising them. They are not looking for equals. They want to be held to no standard while being held up by someone else. They want the comfort of being cared for, with the added benefit of sex, and the unconditional regard of childhood repackaged as adult desire.

They vanish one by one. I am left with the ghost of a family that only ever existed long enough to frighten them. My sons! They are lost to me, not to death, but to recognition. I remain here, a mother only in the wreckage of the experiment, watching the door they fled through. And the house is quiet again.
