Make America Learn History Again: From the River to the Sea
It’s real history, as told by the “All American Man” in my inbox and me.
This post contains sensitive content on racism, antisemitism and genocide, including the murder of children. Reader discretion is advised.
It seemed odd to me at first to hear pro-Palestinian protestors described as antisemitic by right-wing Americans. How is it that one can simultaneously think people who are politically left are too “woke” and make everything about racism and injustice, yet also think that they would be calling for the genocide of Jewish people? I heard from someone who thought that the current protests at colleges in America were aimed at protesting all Jewish people and that the goal was for the Jewish people in Israel to be killed. It wasn’t someone who I thought would fall for that. How did a chant and protests calling for peace, end up being shown to conservative Americans as antisemitic?
Since I started making this post, there’s been some back and forth about the accuracy of the number of dead in Gaza. This was sparked by a U.N. infographic that showed identified deaths separately from unidentified. Previously the unidentified deaths had been shown with, and so this new graph appeared to some to show that less people had died. What it actually showed is that people are still missing under the rubble, or have not been identified. For me, whether the number is 7,000 identified dead children or 14,000 identified or missing children, hardly makes a difference. There is no number of dead children that would make this okay. I’ve left the numbers in the post untouched.
I wonder why. I am pro life by the way, because pro life is caring about people that are alive not whether or not a woman incubates all her embryos to a man’s desire.
This conversation continues below with another American man in my inbox, but first:
As much as I enjoy the satirical nonsense that is “Horny History” and mocking the views that some of these men have in “Make America Learn History Again”, I really do want to make a change in their opinions. My written pieces for Let’s Not Date will only help educate people able to read and comprehend the message. I don’t think a lot of these men can even do so, and I don’t think I can easily teach reading comprehension to 60 year old racist conservatives. One thing I’ve noted is that if I frame an argument as being against the left, this subset of conservative men just blindly agree. These men are also easily influenced by women they find attractive. I’ve been wondering lately if I can use this and my ability to write satire to get them to agree to a different side.
Although a few people reacted angrily, most didn’t. In this small scale example, it worked. It is sad to me, that these American conservatives care more about ridiculing the left than 36,000 deaths, but they do. I don’t think I can convince them to care, but maybe I can play their game to get them to change their opinions.
As a final note, I think it’s important to point out that by definition people who call pro-Palestinian protests antisemitic are not wrong. Saying Israel’s continuous murder of innocent Palestinians is bad is technically antisemitism. This is because currently by definition, antisemitism includes any criticism of Israel. This is in part why it’s so easy for people to say pro-Palestinian protests are inherently antisemitic, regardless of if Jewish people participate and regardless of if they are calling for peace.
It’s a bit of a mess how this came to be. Kenneth Stern of the Center on Racism and Xenophobia saw a need for a definition of antisemitism to be used by law enforcement to properly prosecute rising hate crimes against Jewish people. He said that, “Antisemitism is a certain perception towards Jews hatred of Jews.” However then in his examples of antisemitism, the majority were just criticisms of Israel.
Kenneth has made clear he doesn’t approve of his definition being used to censor Palestinians, but it’s moved past him now. Although the Center on Racism and Xenophobia has removed the definition implying criticism of Israel is antisemitic, the definition carries on elsewhere and is the definition people are using when they call Pro-Palestinian protests antisemitic.
For me, as I attempted to understand how people could portray demands for peace as bad, this was a piece of the puzzle I was missing. Misunderstanding, whether intentionally or not, the intent behind words and even the definition of those words.
Regardless of your opinion on who should have what land, I would hope we can agree the USA should not be funding this destruction.

If you can afford it, can you please subscribe? I love doing this and I really want to be able to continue, but I’m struggling right now in life. Paid subscriptions are only $5 a month and you get the added benefit of additional stories only paid subscribers can see. A little bit from all of you makes this possible. Besides Facebook, I have yet to gain enough followers elsewhere to become monetized, and I really count on my income from here.

I’ve said it before, your wit, passion and humor are great. (“is great”? I always get that mixed up and should have never slept through basic grammar classes).
“How old are you?”
“35”
“Have you been in a relationship?”
“Maybe when I’m older”
