This is a piece about murdering an animal for not following gender norms. Now obviously, an animal’s reason for swaying from these norms is quite different than our own, but I’m well aware parallels may be drawn to our treatment of people. For this reason, reader discretion is advised.

There are many fascinating tales of animals being put on trial for crimes. Locusts who ravaged through the crops. Weevils who destroyed vineyards. Large animals who killed or injured people. This story is intriguing beyond just the act of putting an animal on trial.

This is the story of a male chicken, a cock, who laid eggs. People didn’t have the vocabulary to perceive how this could happen and they were scared. Not having identified the science behind it, they blamed evil. A lack of knowledge on a subject can make anything seem impossible or reprehensible.
