Horny History: Jill Johnston and Betty Friedan
It’s real history, as told by some dude in my inbox and me.
Betty Friedan (1921-2006) was a leader of the women’s movement. A leader, for some. Betty cared mainly about white, straight middle and upper class women who wanted to be able to work outside the home. For all those that existed outside of that, she was no leader.
Jill Johnston (1929-2010) came into the women’s movement a voice for those who had been tossed aside. She fought for the lesbians and all people who strayed from the traditional patriarchy.
I found those pictures of the pool party from Andrea Long Chu so I want to direct some credit to her for finding those here.
I’m left uncertain if he learned anything. Maybe someday when Apple stops filling up everyone’s phones with Jill Johnston photos he’ll find the nipple he’s looking for.
Today’s “If you want to read about it” suggestion is Jill’s own book “Lesbian Nation.”
